How billing actually works
You pay nothing until the site is live
No deposit, no staged payments during the build. Your first monthly payment is taken the month your website goes live, and if the build slips, so does the billing. We carry that risk, not you.
Monthly, in advance, by standing order or direct debit
Same date each month. You get a VAT invoice by email every time, so your bookkeeper has what they need without chasing us for it.
The minimum term runs from launch, not from signing
The 12 months start the day the site goes live. Time spent building does not count against it.
After the minimum term
The plan simply continues month to month. It does not automatically re-lock into another 12 months — that practice is why people distrust monthly contracts, and we do not do it. Cancel any time with 30 days’ notice.
Price rises
We may review prices once a year and you get at least 30 days’ notice of any change. We will not raise your price during your minimum term, and we do not do the trick of quoting a low introductory rate that doubles in year two.
Changing plan
Up or down, at the end of any month. Moving up takes effect straight away; moving down applies from the next billing date. There is no charge for either.
No surprises
What is not included
Everything below sits outside the monthly fee. We would rather list it here than have it appear on an invoice later.
- Paid stock photography. We use free, properly licensed imagery as standard. If you want a specific paid library shot, that licence is yours to buy — usually £10–£30.
- Third-party subscriptions. Booking systems, email marketing tools, live chat, specialist software. We will set them up and integrate them; the subscription is billed to you by that provider.
- Advertising budget. If you run Google or Meta ads, that spend goes directly to them.
- Professional photography or video. Worth the money for most businesses, and we can recommend local people, but it is a separate cost.
- A full redesign inside the minimum term. Ongoing changes are included; starting the design again from scratch is a new project.
- Content you have not written yet. On Starter, copy is yours to provide. Business and Growth include our copywriting.
If anything you want falls outside your plan, we quote it before doing the work. You will never open an invoice you were not expecting.
Pricing questions
Are your prices plus VAT?
All prices shown exclude VAT, which is added at the prevailing rate where applicable. Your quote will show the figure both ways so there’s no confusion.
Are there any hidden costs?
No. The monthly fee covers the design, the build, hosting, SSL, backups, support and your included changes each month.
The only extras are things you actively choose to add — paid stock photography, a third-party booking or email subscription, advertising budget — and we quote those before you commit to anything.
What does my domain name cost?
A standard dot.co.uk domain is included in your plan. If you already own one, we’ll use it and you keep paying your existing registrar directly — usually £10–£15 a year.
Can I buy my website outright later?
Yes, at any point after the 12-month minimum term. Ask us and we’ll quote a buy-out figure, then hand over the code and migrate it wherever you want it.
Why is there a minimum term at all?
Because we build the site before we have been paid for it. A five-page build is several days of work, and without a minimum term there would be nothing to stop someone taking the site and cancelling in month two.
The 12 months is how long it takes for the plan to cover that build cost. After it, there is no lock-in at all.
Is it cheaper to pay for a year upfront?
Yes — pay twelve months in advance and you get the twelfth month free. It is entirely optional and it makes no difference to the service you get.
Do you do smaller one-page sites?
Yes — a single-page site for a new business or a specific campaign sits below the Starter plan. Get in touch and we’ll price it properly rather than pushing you onto a plan you don’t need.
